Conditions are favorable for a further advance of the southwest monsoon in other parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, South Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and parts of Vidarbha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Central and North West Bay of Bengal, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, all of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Bihar by Thursday or Friday.

Strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will continue to produce heavy rains with daily rainfall of 150-200mm in northeast India and adjacent areas throughout this week. The total five-day rainfall amount will accumulate to over 500mm, which will pose a threat of flooding and landslides in some areas.

Heavy rains will increase in coverage of eastern India and adjoining regions from Thursday due to the advancing southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, an offshore trough and strong westerly winds along the west coast will produce continued rains over southern India during this outlook period. Daily rainfall of 20-30mm is likely to continue across Kerala for several days as active rains move north to the Karnataka and Maharashtra coast this weekend.

Consecutive westerly disturbances and lower level easterly winds will produce widespread rains with locally heavy falls over the western Himalayan region and adjacent plains from Thursday.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures will be near normal across much of India during this projection period. The western Himalayan region and adjacent plains will experience a shift from warmer than normal daytime temperatures to near or cooler than average temperatures this weekend, thanks to disturbances from the west. Minimum temperatures will be near normal over much of India during the outlook period, while nightly above normal lows will continue in northern parts and the western coast of the subcontinent.
