How many pints should be sold in pubs?

In the UK, pubs plan to sell 14 million pints today (Thursday March 17) as part of the annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The estimated number comes from an analysis by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), which has encouraged the public to support its local pubs as they mark the occasion.

Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the BBPA, said St Patrick’s Day is ‘synonymous with a toast or two’ and added that pub owners across the country were looking forward to welcoming people into their pubs to celebrate the “joyful” occasion.

Pint sales figures are also expected to rise this year as the Cheltenham Day takes place on the same day.

How many pints of Guinness are drunk each St. Patrick’s Day?

Guinness is an Irish dry stout that Ireland is famous for. When many people think of a St. Patrick’s Day drink, they think of Guinness.

It’s no surprise, then, that around 13 million pints of the drink are consumed worldwide every March 17, according to the financial website. WalletHub.

In fact, around 3 million more pints of this special stout are drunk to celebrate this holiday around the world than on a normal day throughout the year.

What is Saint Patrick’s Day?

Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday held annually on March 17, to mark the day when St Patrick, the patron saint of Irelanddeceased.

Also known as Saint Patrick’s Day, or in Irish, Lá Fhéile Pádraig, this day is a celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Although it has particular significance in Ireland – where the day is an official day public holiday – people across the UK are also taking part in the celebrations.

Drinking alcohol such as Irish whiskey, beer or cider has become a regular part of these celebrations.

What happened in pubs on St. Patrick’s Day in 2021 and 2020?

The BBPA’s upbeat forecast is a big change from last year and the year before.

In 2021, the organization estimated UK pubs lost around £54million on St Patrick’s Day as pubs across the country were closed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

In 2020, pubs were open on St. Patrick’s Day – which always falls on March 17 – but celebrations were much more low-key due to looming restrictions at that time.

Britain’s first lockdown was then announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 23.

The BBFA did not reveal an estimate of how much money pubs lost in 2020, but McClarkin said it was “even more” than in 2021.
