Earlier this month, French footballing legend Thierry Henry presented Mbappe with the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award in Paris.

Roma legend Francesco Totti has also chosen his hometown club over the European giants.

Kylian Mbappe towers over Harry’s Cafe, an American-style restaurant next to the concrete flyover linking central Paris to Bondy, the suburb where the superstar French striker grew up.

A gigantic mural, paid for by Nike, covers an apartment building casting a shadow over the cafe’s parking lot (below). It represents the sleeping young boy dreaming of becoming a superstar.

Now 23, Mbappe’s footballing dreams have come true faster than he could have ever imagined.

But his relationship with Paris had its problems…

Confirmation of Mbappe’s decision to stay at PSG is expected to be announced in the coming hours.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has terrorized defenses this season, scoring 44 goals in 45 games.

He even broke PSG’s heart by leading a Real comeback against the Ligue 1 club in the Champions League.

The prospect of playing alongside his French team-mate would certainly have been one he would have relished, and one that all other European teams would have dreaded.

Instead, the deadly duo will only have the international stage to wear the same colors for the next campaign.

This season, there seemed to be an air of inevitability that Mbappe would move to Real Madrid, despite the club failing with two monstrous offers of €160m and €180m at the end of last summer.

Once again, however, Mbappe has chosen Paris over Madrid.

Numbers don’t lie when it comes to Kylian Mbappe…

PSG did everything they could to convince Mbappe to sign a new contract. It seems like it was a smart move on their part to have retained some flexibility in their approach when negotiating with the France international.

Having reached the final in 2020, the semi-final the following campaign and wavering once again this season, PSG’s hopes of winning the Champions League looked dim had Mbappe left the club.

With his decision to stay at the club looming, however, the star-studded trio of Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi look set to have at least one more attempt together to win European football’s biggest club prize.

The Frenchman is expected to sign a new three-year contract at PSG.

The offer was tabled on Friday, two years short of the previous deal PSG offered.

It was still a gigantic offer for PSG to convince Mbappe to stay at the club.

Is there a world where this turns out to be a shrewd move by PSG?

Mbappe won the World Cup with France in 2018 and the Nations League in 2021. He has also won Ligue 1, France’s top flight, five times since his Monaco appearance.
