Heavy thunderstorms possible today
RICHMOND, Virginia – We will see variable cloudiness today. A warm front will push north across the state. Areas well north of I-64 will have highs in the 60s to around 70s. Metro highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Areas well south and southwest of I-64 will be near or above 80.
A few showers or isolated thunderstorms are possible the first half of the day, but the chance of rain is low. A line of storms is expected in western Virginia by mid-afternoon. Chances of a storm in the Metro increase after about 4 p.m., with the best chance of a storm between about 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Storms can produce hail and strong wind gusts. The threat of tornadoes is low, but there will be rotational potential in a few storms, primarily in the low risk area below.
Storms will leave the area before midnight, with some showers overnight. Lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Foggy areas are possible.
Monday will be partly cloudy with highs ranging in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
Much of Tuesday will be dry, but a shower or thunderstorm is possible, mostly late in the day. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Another good chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive with a cold front later Wednesday. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s, but some upper 80s are possible in places.
The second half of the week will be cooler with highs in the 60s and 70s. Another system will bring rain Friday through Saturday.
