Drake London’s injury is ‘well’; should play week 1
The Falcons are hoping to kick off the post-Matt Ryan era on the right foot. This means his players are healthy and ready to go when the season kicks off. As is fairly common there, that plan suffered a setback when Drake London suffered a knee injury in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.
Although it seemed quite worrying at the time, we found out the next day that the knee injury was minor. It was good news for all, but London didn’t practice against the New York Jets the week before their preseason game.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz gave us the first concrete news on London’s knee and its timeline.
Drake London, I’m told, will likely take it week in and week out as the team assesses his progress. But this is another good news for the #Hawks‘ first draft choice. Atlanta opens Week 1 at home against the #Saints.

The news is great, do not doubt it. The Falcons are certainly putting their best plan in place, which is to make sure London is as healthy as possible before playing the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.
The concern is that London will miss a lot of practice and break with their starting quarterback Marcus Mariota. Receivers generally take a while to adjust to the NFL. Add Mariota as quarterback and missed weeks of training probably means fans need patience for London. Remember Calvin Ridley, seen as a more polished prospect, had an up and down rookie season with a more skilled quarterback.
The good news is that London should be going all out. The bad news is that this team will need some luck to get out of the gate with a quick start.
