As Cyclone Yaas made landfall in northern Odisha around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, high winds and high tides hit several coastal towns and villages on either side of the Odisha-West Bengal border, flooding low areas and uprooting trees, and claiming at least three lives – two in Odisha and one in West Bengal.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday conducted an aerial survey to assess the extent of the damage in the state.
