13 First weather alert | Wednesday morning December 29, 2021

LAS VEGAS – It’s clear and in the 30s this morning, and the highs will be limited to the upper 40s today. Southern breezes at 10-20 mph will accentuate the cold. Thick clouds are moving this afternoon but the showers will be isolated at best. Widespread rain persists until around midnight and stays with Las Vegas until lunchtime Thursday. Temperatures this evening drop to nearly 40 °, so no snow is expected in the valley. A winter storm warning is in place for elevations above 4,000 feet, with 12 “of snow near Mountain Springs on Highway 160 and up to 24” of snow for Mt. Charleston and Lee Canyon. It is possible that neighborhoods above 3,000 feet (such as Summerlin West) may see snow. Thursday dries up in the afternoon as highs stay in the upper 40% and winds stay below 10mph. Friday looks to be mostly dry (chance of rain is only 20%) with highs in the 1950s and northwest breezes of up to 15 mph. We will be in the upper 30s with northerly winds at 10-15 mph by midnight to ring in 2022. Saturday (January 1) Las Vegas looks sunny and cold with northerly gusts of up to 15 mph and temperatures of waking up in the mid 30s, followed by daytime highs in the mid 40s. Similar cold and bright weather continues on Sunday, although it should be quieter.
